A VISION THAT BECAME A MOVEMENT
The story of Sree Narayana Guru, the sacred ideals of SNDP Yogam, and the continuing socio-cultural mission of the Mumbai Thane Union across Maharashtra.
SREE NARAYANA GURU
28 August 1854 — 21 September 1928
Mystic, philosopher, visionary, social scientist, and revered poet from Kerala. At a time when societal order was crippled by rigid orthodoxy and caste discrimination, Guru spearheaded a profound silent spiritual revolution. His Darshanam combined universal oneness, secular and scientific education, economic self-reliance, and the timeless truth of human dignity.
“Oru Jathi, Oru Matham, Oru Daivam, Manushyanu”
“Whatever be the religion, it is enough if man becomes virtuous.”
THE ARCHITECTS OF SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION
The convergence of spiritual wisdom, public health science, and visionary literature that laid the institutional ground for modern human rights in South India.
DR. P. PALPU
A pioneering medical officer, bacteriologist, and social revolutionary. Despite graduating at the highest level of medical education, systemic caste proscriptions denied him state employment in his native Travancore. That historic injustice ignited his unwavering resolve to organize the oppressed, ultimately seeking Sree Narayana Guru's divine guidance to build an enduring mass movement for constitutional and human dignity.
MAHAKAVI KUMARAN ASAN
The first General Secretary of SNDP Yogam and one of modern Malayalam literature's greatest poetic masters. As Guru’s primary disciple, Kumaran Asan transformed verses into instruments of liberation. His monumental compositions challenged caste arrogance, asserted the sovereignty of the human soul, and served as the profound cultural voice of the renaissance.
AN ORGANISATION FOR A NEW SOCIAL ORDER
Following the historic Aruvippuram Shivalinga consecration of 1888—which fundamentally shook caste hegemony by affirming that divine grace belongs to all humanity—the Aruvippuram Temple Committee was formally reconstituted. On 15 May 1903, under Indian Companies Regulation, the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam was registered with Sree Narayana Guru as its life-long President.
